Every issue is a short story about a regular teenager (with more angst than recommended) with superpowers and how they deal with them. If you read only the works of Mark Millar, Warren Ellis or Garth Ennis... well, keep away from this book. A little recomendation: don't read the 12 issues on one sitting, you'll enjoy it a lot more if you only read one issue each day. May not be for everybody, but it is really good

Maus

Recognized as the best graphic novel ever published it tells the story of the author's father dureing the second world war. If you are a fan of comics (duuuuh) you need to read it. The novel concerned a Reverend, William Stryker, stirring up religious anti-mutant fervor and kidnapping Professor X in an attempt to eradicate all mutants. It is one of the most clear-cut examples of X-Men comics using mutant relations as a metaphor for race relations.
Originally published in 1982 as Marvel Graphic Novel #5, God Loves, Man Kills is arguably the archetypal Chris Claremont X-Men story. It's also been billed by Marvel as the inspiration for the X-Men 2 film; God Loves, Man Kills is the distillation of the elements that made Claremont's X-Men work at its peak in the 1980s. It's worth reading for that reason, if nothing else.

Common Grounds
A donut shop called Common Grounds is a neutral meeting-place or heroes and villains. In the first of two stories, a news reporter meets a super-speedster called Speeding Bullet at Common Grounds. Marvels
The series examines the Marvel Universe, the collective setting of most of Marvel's superhero series, from the perspective of an Everyman, news photographer Phil Sheldon. Scud: The Disposable Assassin (published from 1994 to 1998) is a humorous, hyperkinetic science-fiction comic by Rob Schrab about a world in which you can buy weapons out of vending machines, the most popular of which are intelligent robots that kill a specified target and then self-destruct.

The protagonist of the series is Scud, an average Heart Breaker Series 1373 model assassin. On his first mission, he is sent to kill Jeff, a rampaging female mutant with mousetraps for hands and an electrical plug for a head.

During the mission, Scud glances in a mirror and sees the warning label on his back explaining how he will explode upon completion of his mission. Realizing that he doesn't want to die, instead of killing his opponent, he shoots off Jeff's arms and legs, then takes her to a hospital to ensure their mutual survival. To pay Jeff's outrageous medical bills, Scud is forced to become a freelance mercenary and assassin.

Deadpool
In 1997, Deadpool was given his own ongoing title, initially written by Joe Kelly, with then newcomer Ed McGuinness as the artist. It firmly establishes his nickname "the Merc with a Mouth," and creates a supporting cast including Blind Al and his best friend, Weasel. The Thing
the Thing, under writer Dan Slott, began starring in his first solo title in more than 20 years. Slott's series, a critical success, suffered from low sales, and was cancelled after the eighth issue.

The Thing used his newfound wealth to build a community center in his old neighborhood on Yancy Street. Despite constant sabotage of the project, the Thing was able to complete the center with the help of his friends in the superhero community.

Infinite Crisis was a sequel to DC's 1985 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths. It revisited characters and concepts from that earlier series, including the existence of the DC Multiverse, with alternative versions of such iconic characters as the Golden Age Earth-Two Superman. A major theme was the nature of heroism, contrasting the often dark and conflicted modern-day heroes with memories of "lighter" and ostensibly more noble and collegial heroes of American comic books' earlier days.

The story's plot started in 2003 with the death of Donna Troy in the Teen Titans/Young Justice crossover, Graduation Day. The 2004 limited series Identity Crisis was not originally labeled as part of the story, but the Prelude to Infinite Crisis special later labeled it as a tie-in. DC officially began leading up with the one-shot issue Countdown to Infinite Crisis, followed by four six-issue limited series tied into Infinite Crisis and culminating in Infinite Crisis.

Nocturnals

The team consists of characters from different dimensions, or realities, which have been removed from time and space in order to correct problems (often called “hiccups") in various alternate worlds and divergent timelines in the multiverse. The team usually is made up of six members and each time a member is killed or returned to his or her home reality, a new member is introduced and joins the team. The Exiles were originally given missions by the Timebroker, through the Tallus.

The Walking Dead
The undead are on the rise in comics and one of the best of the recent crop of zombie books is Kirkman's The Walking Dead. Imagine waking up in the hospital to find your hometown crawling with zombies. Your wife and kids are gone. The military is nowhere to be found. This is how things begin in The Walking Dead, but as we discover, the zombies aren't nearly as threatening as human nature. 52 is the title of a comic book limited series published by DC Comics, which debuted on May 10, 2006, one week after the conclusion of the seven-issue Infinite Crisis. The series is written by Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka and Mark Waid with layouts by Keith Giffen. Each issue of the series costs $2.50 USD.

52 is comprised of 52 issues, published weekly for one year, chronicling the events that take place during the missing year after the end of Infinite Crisis. Earth X
Earth X is the collective name for a trilogy of comic book series published by Marvel Comics and based on Alex Ross's re-imaginings of a dystopian future for the Marvel Universe. It was one of Marvel's best-selling projects in recent years.

The Earth X comics, written primarily by Jim Krueger based on Ross's notes, included Earth X, Universe X, and Paradise X (fourteen issues each - 1-12, plus X; Earth and Universe also have an issue 0, while Paradise has an issue A), Heralds X (three issues), Ragnarok (two issues), and Xen, Beasts, Devils, Spidey, Iron Men, 4, and Cap (one issue each). Each issue featured a fully-painted cover by Ross; the covers of Earth X and Universe X each combine to make up one large image. The interior art was provided by John Paul Leon based on Ross' designs.

These are a couple of comics from Milo Manara, an amazing italian artist. Just one very important note: THESE ARE NOT FOR KIDS. They have a lot of sexual content, specially Click, which is quite explicit. So please, don't even download them if you get easily offended or are not interested in erotic comics. Many of his works have been serialized in Heavy Metal magazine.

From Wikipedia: Click is a series of four erotic Italian comic books by comic book creator Milo Manara. The first comic is about a rather shy woman, Ms. Claudia Cristiani, who is married to an older, rich man. A friend of her husband programs her to become sexually insatiable when a remote-control device is activated. The three other roughly follow the same story.

Nightcrawler

In September of 204, the first Nightcrawler ongoing title book was published by Marvel. Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa with covers and pencils by Darick Robertson throughout the series duration, it featured the story arcs "The Devil Inside", "Ghosts On The Rails", "The Winding Way", and the final twelfth issue entitled "Happy Birthday, Kurt!". At the end of "The Winding Way", Nightcrawler came into possession of Magik's Soulsword, which was stored inside his body. The Soulsword has several magical properties such as dispelling and blocking magical effects and severely damaging magic users while passing through normal humans and mutants harmlessly.
